HomeMade Pizza

A buddy of mine, Filip, lives in Poland and has a kick ass band over there. We keep in touch on Facebook and I get a kick out of seeing the photos of things over there. It’s not that different from America in a lot of ways.

I didn’t want to sound like a schmuck, but I went ahead and asked him what some things are like and what things are different over in Poland compared to America. He says all the same movies like Disney and Warner Brothers are released over there, but all the voices are dubbed over by Polish actors. They don’t even try to find an actor that sounds close to the original English speaking actors – I wonder how the Polish actors get those gigs? It would be easy work – no real acting – just talking into a microphone and reading from  a script.

Last night Filip posted Instagram photos of his home made pizza. It was not round like our traditional pizzas over here, he made it a big rectangle that fit in a cookie sheet kind of pan. He has a gas oven, so I wonder if that oven gets hotter than my electric one? I wonder if the gas gives it a better flavor than an electric oven?

His home made pizza was completely homemade – the dough was made in their kitchen and even the pizza sauce was made from fresh tomatoes. I was impressed and it looked great! I’ve never tried to make a pizza completely from scratch before. But now he has inspired me – if Fili and his wife can make a big pizza at home – why can’t I?

Summer Concerts

We just got over the big Bonnaroo festival for this year. It had a record setting attendance again – not a surprise. Ever since it start, each year it has grown. Bonnaroo started out with with a lot of unknown and Indi bands. Now it attracts headliners from all over the world and features, country music, rock and roll, rap, Americana and even comedy shows. There is nothing else like it. Tennessee’s own version of the old-school Woodstock Festival from the 70’s.

At the same time Bonnaroo is going in in southern Tennessee, there is a big music festival here in Nashville. It used to be called Fan Fair for the country music artists, and a lot of the locals still call it that. But some corporate suits decided they wanted to fuck it up and add some rock and rap stars into the mix to get more bang for their buck.Nobody likes that but the labels almost never admit that they fucked up and they like ramming shit down our throats, so we don’t have Fan Fair anymore except for the holdouts who have taken it underground.

I think it is really stupid that they put both festivals on at the same time. It is causing a huge conflict for the performers and the fans. I really don’t see why they don’t move the Nashville festival into July. Its not any difference in the weather around here between June and July, and having a month between events would give more people the chance to attend both and enjoy the music.

Going for a Ride

When I first moved here, one of the biggest challenges of being in a new city was navigation. It was simple enough to read a map – there was no such thing as GPS back then – and get from my house to a major destination like the downtown, my job, the mall, etc. But the challenge became finding the obscure places, like the dentist office and where to get your tags renewed, and finding alternate routes in case there was a traffic jam or bad weather that blocked the fastest route.

It used to be fun to take the bike and just head out for a couple of exploring the back roads and learning my way around. Now that I know most of the roads and alternate routes, and I have routine of places to go, I almost never just “go for a ride” anymore. I kinda miss that. Maybe I should spend a couple hours next weekend and head out of my comfort zone, just to look at the scenery and see what might have changed.

Snake on a Plane

There was a bizarre movie that came out a few years ago about a couple dozen snakes that got lose on an airplane. I never watched that whole movie – it seemed pretty lame for a storyline and I am not even creeped out about snakes anyway. Some people act so fucking crazy when they see any snake or bug or anything unusual.

But I came to think of this movie because I was listening to some guys who run an airport while sitting at a table next to them at lunch. They were having a big laugh about some guy who flew his small plan into that airport and left it there for a couple of days. Then when he came back to fly it home, he took off from their small field but almost immediately called back to the tower and said he had an emergency.

Turns out that while that guy left his plane for a couple of days at the field, that a snake had come into his plane and made a home inside the plane’s dashboard. When he took off the snake was disturbed and came out from behind the dashboard and tried to get out of the plane. The dumb fuck was screaming into the radio “Emergency! Emergency!” and he turned it around and landed, got out of the plane as fast as he could, and threw himself down on the ground scared to death.

I don’t know what the fuck I would do if a snake came crawling out of a dashboard, but I don’t think I would be screaming like a little girl and shitting myself. What a putz!

Anniversary trip

My lovely wife’s and my anniversary is coming up and we have planned a romantic two week trip to Hawaii. To make taking this trip much easier we have decided to purchase some new luggage, including Carry-On Luggage.

We have not had new luggage since we were married 15 years ago. We are way past due to get us some new, very nice luggage. After looking at all the different kinds of luggage available we have decided to get the Hartman Intensity carry on luggage. The selection at the Hartman web site was amazing, some of the finest luggage I have ever seen, and it was very tough to select the luggage that we wanted to purchase it all looked so nice. I also selected me a new wallet from the Hartman Belting Leather Collection. Now we are ready for our trip with new luggage in tow.

The Hartman Luggage site had so much to choose from and I was amazed that the prices were so very reasonable, that made our selection so much easier. I love our new luggage and can not wait to get under way on our romantic trip to Hawaii. We have a couple of birthdays coming up and we have decided to get Hartman Luggage as gift for our loved ones with upcoming birthdays. This great luggage will make the perfect gifts.
