Mom’s Cats

My Mother was really “The Cat Lady”. After she retired, she volunteered with organizations to trap feral cats and have them seen by a vet, spayed or neutered and given shots. Her home was often filled with 5 or 6 cages occupied by these feral cats while they were waiting to go to the vet, or while recuperating before being released again. She also fed a lot of cats outside. You’d often see several lounging in the sunshine on her deck after having their belly’s full.

About 14 years ago, on a cold, snowy day, she came to visit me. She noticed a very pregnant cat outside and coaxed her in with a plate of yummy cat food. After eating, the mama cat went into my laundry room and hid behind my water heater. We continued to leave food and water available for her in the laundry room but did not see her again for some time.

A few days later, my teenage sons heard soft little mewing coming from the wall. They knew the kittens had been born. While we did not see the kittens for a few weeks, they were able to determine that there were three of them. They named them before they saw them. They named one little girl Sugaree after a Grateful Dead song.

Mama Cat eventually went back outside. We found homes for two of the cats and kept Sugaree. I loved her and knew she would become my cat. Over the course of these 14 years, she and I have lived in many places, with people and alone. We’ve also had other cats at times. She’s always been a loner where other cats are involved, but she loves her human (me). She will spend hours perched on my leg, and sleeps on my head at night.

Once again, she and I are living alone and loving it. I’m very happy to have my little feline companion and I hope to have her for many more years.

Choosing a Name for My New Pup

Its been too long since I had a good dog and now I’m wanting a new pup and she needs a name. My last dog was great – a Border Collie who stayed with me for over 11 years. Cancer got her and it was hard on me to lose that dog. So I adapted to life without my friend and I have to admit that its lonely as fuck without a dog waiting for you to get home after work. The house is just so fucking empty without anyone but me in it. So I think I need to get a new dog. I’m just not sure what kind of dog to get and what to name her. I am thinking about getting a Rottweiler or a Boxer. I like big dogs and I’ve never been afraid of a dog – even when people tell me that their dog is vicious, I just play it cool and don’t do anything stupid to scare or agitate their dog and everything works out fine.

I have no idea what would be a good name for a Rotty. It has to be a female. In my experience, a female dog gets along better with a male owner. Excuse me for not say “pet parent.” That’s doesn’t sound right to me. I own my dog. I take full responsibility for it, take her to the vet when she needs it, have her groomed and treated for mosquitoes and ticks and shit like that. I want a puppy so that I get the cute days and can start training her right from the very beginning. If you know anyone with Rotty pups, give me a shout.

Gift for my kids

As a gift to my children we have purchased a large salt water tank for fish and this weekend we will be getting the salt water fish to put in the tank. The search for affordable salt water fish has taken us all over Nashville and now we are looking online to find some salt water fish for our tank that we can afford. The very best priced salt water fish that we have found are located at Reef Hot Spot they have a great web site and fish that are very affordable for all sizes of salt water tanks. What we have been looking for is a blue spot jawfish for our tank.

Reef Hot Spot has a great web site located at http://www.reefhotspot.com there they have a great selection of exotic sat water fish and so much information of all kinds of sat water sea life. I have never had a salt water tank and I am really looking forward to seeing all the colors in the tank and just simply watching the salt water fish swim in the tank. The children are very excited to get some fish in the salt water tank and I am pleased that we found Reef Hot Spot to locate the fish we had been searching for and unable to find here in Nashville.

Night with a lion

I know that this sounds like a story but it is true, while Hurricane Ike was approaching Texas a man who has a pet lion, now I know that part sounds like a story, he tried to get his lion to safety and got caught in the hurricane, He found refuge in a church with other people seeking shelter from the storm. They placed the lion in the sanctuary of the church and rode out the storm. When the storm lifted humans and lion were all safe ready to be rescued, I think I could find a better way to seek shelter from a huge storm like Hurricane Ike than to be trapped with a lion in a church. I am just glad the story had a happy ending and everyone including the lion were found safe and sound.

Cat

We had a kitten appear at our house last week and of course being the softies that we are we took it in, not as easy as it sounds with five dogs. One of our employees took it home with him, He has a couple of cats and no dogs, so it is a much better place for a playful little kitten. There was just no room here, I would not of minded if we did not have the dogs. Dogs and cats for the most part do not mix well. I would of really hated if one of the dogs got a hold of it and hurt it. Well it has a good home now and thats all that matters.
