Counting Pennies

I don’t want to say that money is tight, but wow, the expenses and bills just keep racking up! I have budgeted and scrimped and I can’t seem to save a dime.

Last week I even cut some coupons out of the newspaper and took them to the grocery store. I saved about $12 on the groceries that would have cost $62, and it only took about 10 minutes to sort through the coupons and cut them out. I might be onto to something with that.

Best Burgers

Most lunches are a hamburger for me. I don’t even think about it much. I get hungry after I’ve been up about 4 or 5 hours and I want something to eat that is cheap, fast and filling. A hamburger does the job. French fries go great with the burger and so does a cold drink. I prefer Pepsi, but I’ll drink just about any soda out there – if it has bubbles, it’s good.

The best hamburgers around here from a drive through are served up at Backyard Burgers. They use real Angus beef and they grill the burgers over an open flames, not on a big greasy grill. Each burger is about 1/3 pound patty and standards toppings include a squirt of mustard, a slice of red onion, a slice of fresh tomato and a big leaf of lettuce. Good stuff and a bargain at four bucks.

Cookies

One of the best smells in the world is to walk into your house and smell fresh baked cookies, the smell lifts up your heart and makes you smile no matter how bad your day had been up to that point. I was blessed when I got home from work today my wife and Grandson David had been cooking cookies and the whole house smelled like fresh baked cookies. I at that point forgot what a rotten day I was having and the rest of the day was golden thanks to that great smell of fresh baked cookies.

Long lines

As I went to fill up my truck with gasoline yesterday I was horrified to see long lines at every gas station, and some gas stations were already out of gasoline. I was forced to fill up with premium gasoline where I normally buy regular gasoline. The station we were at was already out of regular and mid grade gasoline. The price today at spots here in Nashville is approaching $5.00 a gallon, if you can find gasoline to buy that is. Today we are going to go out and get some paper products so we do not run out if there is a shortage. We filled up some tubs with food a couple of months ago just in case of something just like this was to occur.
